At Budwood we use therapeutic parenting techniques alongside our bespoke C.A.T.C.H ® Model to provide young people with a high standard of support which is tailored to their individual needs.
Therapeutic practice forms the foundation of everything we do and helps us to support young people to heal from any adverse experiences they may have encountered during their lives, as well as giving them the tools they need to thrive in the future.
Here are just some of the ways in which we incorporate therapeutic practice into daily life at Budwood:
- All of our staff receive training on how to incorporate scientifically backed therapeutic parenting techniques and thoroughly recognise the impact of developmental trauma on young people.
- We support young people to explore the therapy options available to them, which includes support from CAMHS, traditional psychotherapy such as CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), and other therapeutic routes such as music therapy.
- Our staff work closely with mental health professionals, receiving regular clinical supervision to help them better understand and cater to the needs of young people who have experienced trauma.
- We have developed our own therapeutic toolkit, the C.A.T.C.H ® Model, to help support young people in all aspects of their lives. Staff receive three days of training in how to use this model, and use it in daily.
The five principles of the C.A.T.C.H ® Model
CONNECT:
We connect with young people by accepting them as they are. We strive to be empathetic and supportive, building a solid foundation of trust.
ACTIVE:
We recognise that keeping active is a core component of leading a healthy, happy adult life. We motivate young people at Budwood to live an active lifestyle, and provide them with plenty of access to healthy and fulfilling activities.
TOGETHER:
Our staff are always available to help young people to develop into strong, confident adults who are able to self-regulate and manage their emotions and behavioural responses. Staff work with young people, using co-regulating techniques to help them to strengthen and develop healthy coping skills.
CO-CONSTRUCT:
Staff show a healthy interest in young people’s lives, supporting them towards independence while also being there to provide assistance and help them to understand their life experiences.
HAPPY:
We want every young person who stays at Budwood to have a rewarding, enjoyable experience. We aim to make Budwood a place of trust, friendship and laughter.
By implementing the principles of C.A.T.C.H ® we’re able to create a fun, nurturing and supportive environment where young people are able to discover their independence, explore their sense of self and build the skills they’ll need to step into adult life with confidence.
