Education & Employment

Achieving in Education

Succeeding in education opens up so many doors for our young people. We believe that the best outcomes for young people are achieved when they are able to stay in the stability of their current school or college environment. Children who are not in school or college will be provided to access to other forms of education, for example completing functional skills courses or receiving home tuition.

We encourage and support every child at Budwood to fulfil their academic potential:

  • Each child has a Personal Education Plan designed to fit their needs, which is regularly reviewed by each home’s Registered Manager.
  • We’re registered with ASDAN, giving our young people access to a range of qualifications.
  • Wi-Fi is available across our homes to ensure that young people can engage thoroughly with their education, as well as a personal desk in each child’s bedroom and computer access.
  • Staff will attend relevant school meetings, working with the child’s family wherever appropriate.
  • We provide online support in Functional Skills Maths and English.
  • Private tutors can be arranged for children in extra need of support.
  • We conduct monthly reviews of children’s progress to help them stay on target.

Supporting Employment

For older children, preparing to move on to independent living or supported accommodation can be a huge and scary transition. We’re there to support young people every step of the way, helping them to navigate their first steps into the world of work, further education, or further training.

We support young people by:

  • Arranging sessions with OUR Education and Life Skills worker who will support them in their transition and help them to decide their next steps.
  • Providing children with a key worker who will advocate for them and provide personalised and consistent support in every area of their lives, setting monthly targets during progress reviews to help them to achieve.
  • Working with employers in the local area to secure job roles, work experience and volunteering positions for the young people in our care.

With a holistic approach to education and employment support, we are able to help young people achieve the best outcomes in every aspect of their lives, prepare them for adult life and help them to feel confident about their next steps.
