Our referrals process
Before a young person moves to Budwood, we strongly encourage them to visit the accommodation and meet key support staff whenever possible. Ideally, the manager should have attended a previous Looked After Child (LAC) statutory review or Professionals Meeting to inform the child’s support team about the services and assistance that will be provided. This allows for thorough scrutiny and reflection on whether the accommodation is suitable to meet the young person’s needs.
A detailed referral and risk assessment from the Local Authority are required before placement. While emergency admissions are accepted, they are contingent upon a risk assessment and suitability of the match with other residents in the home. Upon receiving a referral, Budwood will conduct its own matching risk assessment.
Upon admission, a safe care plan and contract of expectations will be created in collaboration with the young person. We will also require a copy of the young person’s Care Plan, as stipulated by the Care Planning, Placement, and Case Review (England) Regulations 2010.
For young people aged 16 and above, Budwood will obtain a copy of their Pathway Plan or work with the Local Authority and the young person to develop the plan together. This plan will be reviewed with the Local Authority within 28 days of the move, again after three months, and then six months thereafter, or as needed. The Placement Plan will also be reviewed and updated as necessary.
How to make a referral
We select the most appropriate setting based on the needs, age, and other information you provide us. In response to an inquiry, we create an initial placement plan and risk assessments, which provide an overview of how we will care for, safeguard, and work with the young person. Our thorough process includes facilitating pre-placement visits for all involved to ensure the best possible fit and preparation for the young person’s transition.
Call the referrals team on 0808 196 8219 and we will ensure your enquiry is handled efficiently. If your call is out of hours, or the line is busy, you will be automatically transferred to the duty mobile.
We are part of the Polaris Community. To refer via email please contact us at referrals@budwoodltd.co.uk. Please attach the latest: CLA Reports, Health Reviews and chronology, Assessments, EHCP or any reports from other professionals involved in supporting the child. A chronology is really important as it informs the initial approach we undertake and which core elements of the therapeutic model we focus on.
